Get a Library Card

User Eligibility:
Obtaining a Library card is required to utilize Library services. A person wishing to obtain a Youngtown Public Library card must provide a valid photo ID and proof of residence (i.e., piece of mail) and be a resident of Maricopa County.  A “computer use only” card can be obtained with a valid photo ID and without proof of residence.


Acceptable forms of identification:

  • Adults must present a valid photo ID (Driver’s license, Military ID, School ID, Passport) and proof of residence (utility bill or legal document; an electronic copy is acceptable), and is then considered an established patron.(If an individual does not have proof of their current address, a computer use only card will be issued. No materials will be allowed to be checked out until proof of residence is provided.)Cardholder agrees to comply with all Library rules and regulations, to pay all fees, to be responsible for any lost or damaged materials, and to provide immediate notice of change of address or lost or stolen cards.
  • Children under the age of 18 MUST have a parent or guardian present to obtain a card.A parent/guardian must provide appropriate valid photo ID and proof of residence. The parent/guardian does not need to have a library card to obtain a card for a minor child.However, if they have a card, their Library account cannot be in a delinquent status. There is no age restriction on who may receive a Library card.The parent/guardian will instruct staff regarding computer use for the minor, and it will be entered in the account.Parent/guardian is responsible for return of all materials checked out by minors.
  • Special groups or programs may be exempt from showing proper identification or having a guardian present when receiving a Library card with prior approval from the Library Manager.


Library Cards:

  • There is no fee for a Library card.
  • Library privileges are not transferable; individuals are prohibited from lending their Library privileges to others, including public computer usage.
  • Library cards expire annually to allow for patron information to be updated.Patron must provide their library card.Photo ID and proof of residence is not required for renewal.
  • If a patron forgets their Library card, they will be granted Library privileges by showing a valid photo ID (Driver’s license, Military ID, School ID, Passport).
